Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross ramps back up this weekend @ the RedBud MX National
Wednesday, July 01, 2009
Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Pourcel and Makita/Suzuki’s Reed won the opening 250 and 450 class rounds at High Point – can they repeat at Redbud?
CORONA, Calif., (July 1st, 2009) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel and Makita/Suzuki’s Chad Reed captured the opening rounds of the fifth annual Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross earlier this year at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pa., and are now poised to continue their pursuit of the $25,000 – each – in bonus money at round two of the exciting race series-within-a-series gets set to go off this weekend at RedBud in Buchanan, Mich. The Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross is set up to handsomely reward any rider, which this year is now boils down to the 250 class’ Pourcel and 450 class’ Reed, that can sweep their respective class’ main event overall wins at High Point, this weekend at RedBud (Buchanan, Mich.) and Budds Creek, Md., Aug. 22. Pourcel and Reed, each of whom pocketed an additional $3,000 from Monster Energy for their wins at High Point, are now both in line to win an additional $25,000 bonus should they be able to sweep all three rounds. “Everyone at Monster Energy is stoked on the continuation of the Monster Energy Triple Crown at RedBud this weekend in Michigan,” said Monster Energy’s Vipe Desai. “Both Christophe and Chad should be commended for their winning efforts on a tough High Point track and we wish both of them the best of luck in trying to conquer RedBud and the famed ‘LaRocco’s Leap’ (the MX Nationals’ biggest jump). Weather’s supposed to be perfect and RedBud draws about the biggest crowd the Nationals will see all year. So the setting’s ideal for round two of the Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross!” RedBud will provide some formidable challenges for both Pourcel and Reed, neither of whom have won on the hallowed grounds of this long-running stop on the MX National tour. A myriad of obstacles await them, the largest looming being that of the awe-inspiring LaRocco’s Leap, tagged with local namesake Mike LaRocco’s name on account of he was the first one to nut up and jump the 120-plus foot monstrosity. Sand, severe elevation changes, a ski jump that nearly marked the end for Makita/Suzuki rider Mike Alessi last year and some 30,000 fans chanting “ReeeedddBuuuddd” will no doubt make for an epic second round of the Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross. In addition to Pourcel and Reed, top privateers Steven Clarke and Nick Wey were recipients of generous checks from Monster Energy for their performances at High Point. Both Clarke and Wey received giant checks from Monster Energy for $2,000 each! And RedBud marks the homecoming for Michigan’s Wey, so you can bet he’ll be looking to cash in on that Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross privateer money again. The second of the three Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross rounds is scheduled for the Saturday, July 4th at RedBud.
