Monster Energy Signs Action Sports Legend and BMX Star Dave Mirra
Most decorated action sports athlete of all time to rock iconic Monster Energy glowing green clawed “M” logo

CARLSBAD, California, (June 16, 2006) – Monster Energy announced today that they’ve landed their biggest action sports megastar to date – BMX legend Dave Mirra.

“Dave Mirra is an ambassador for an entire generation of action sports enthusiasts and Monster Energy is stoked to have him on board,” said Mark Hall, President of Monster Beverage Co. “Dave’s name is synonymous with gold – and now with a splash of ‘Monster’ green.”

Mirra, who holds the coveted record of winning the most X Games gold medals in the history of the competition, has been voted in industry publications throughout the years as the best BMX competitor of his era. From a mainstream sports standpoint, Mirra’s image is one of the few to clear the gap between action and stick & ball sports, often listed with such recognizable names as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan with today’s youth.

“Dave Mirra had a Midas touch with products and events he selects to involve himself with and Monster Energy feels strongly that this relationship will be a win/win situation for both parties,” said Monster Energy spokesman Scott Sepkovic of Crown AMG.

Added Mirra’s manager, Steve Astephen of Wasserman Media Group: “ Dave is truly excited about this partnership. Many times Dave has been the exclusive action sports endorser with his sponsors,” noting Mirra’s other sponsors Slim Jim and Oxy. “Joining Monster Energy, which already boasts a solid core of top action sports athletes, will be a new and exciting experience for Dave.”

Mirra joins a stable of Monster Energy athletes that feature many marquee names in action sports, including motocross racer Ricky Carmichael (who’s actually good friends with Mirra), Dew Tour BMX champion Ryan Guettler (who rides Mirra’s MirraCo. Bikes), defending X Games skateboard vert gold medalist Pierre Luc Gagnon, street skater Greg Lutzka, Winter X superpipe gold medalist Andy Finch, Olympic snowboard medalist Danny Kass, free skiing sensations Corey Vanular and CR Johnson, World Cup downwhill mountain bike racer Sam Hill, freestyle motocross legend Mike “The Godfather” Metzger, motorcycle distance jumping record holder Ryan Capes, snowmobile distance jumping record holder Paul Thacker, surfing greats Shane Dorian, and Corey Lopez and Dane Reynolds, along with wakeboard champion Danny Harf.

Monster Energy supports the sport. Be it BMX, skate, surf, motocross, snow, wake – name it – the athletes are rockin’ Monster Energy more than anything these days. Check out all the flavors – Original Monster Energy, Monster Lo-Carb, Monster Assault and the new Monster/fruit juice hybrid called “Khaos.” Dave Mirra digs ‘em – so will you.

Monster Energy’s Ryan Capes Ready To Bust Up Another World Distance Motorcycle Jumping Record

King of all motorcycle distance jumpers set to uncork another jaw
dropper: 150-plus Harley-Davidsons, ramp-to-ramp with an added bonus!

CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 6, 2006) – Monster Energy Madman Ryan Capes – the first guy to break the improbable 300-foot barrier jump on a motorcycle – will be at it again this Thursday (June 8th) when he’ll attempt to clear a record 150-plus Harley-Davidson motorcycles at Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky.

Capes, who’s monstrous 310-foot leap at Pacific Raceways (Kent,
Wash.) last October is still reverberating through out the extreme sports world, will add 50-plus HD motorcycles to the previous record of 100 – set by “Captain” Robbie Knievel at Buffalo Chip Campground in Sturgis, S.D., in 2003.

“I didn’t want to just clip it by a couple bikes – I want to annihilate it,” said Capes of the old record.

And get this, not only will Capes be jumping some 200 feet ramp-to- ramp, he’s also planning on pulling a trick in between – which would be another world record!

“Yeah, the guys from Guinness (Book of World Records) will be there, they’re stoked,” added Capes, who nonchalantly added that the furthest he’s ever jumped ramp-to-ramp has been off a freestyle jump (roughly 70 feet). “So this is the first time I’ll be jumping triple digits ramp-to-ramp.”

As for the trick Capes is going to pull, the reigning King of all motorcycle distance jumpers said “I’m looking at the Hart Attack, or maybe a Double Grab or Indy Air…or I might end up doing all three, you know me!”

Capes also said that the 150 bikes number is arbitrary. “I thought that was a good number to start with,” he said. “Bikers have to raise at least $150 to get their bike in there and all the money’s going to charity. So we’ve already go 156 bikes and I’m thinking we can probably fit a bunch more.”

Monster Energy’s Mark Burkhart and Doug Henry on supermoto podium in 1st race; Danny Eslick and Aaron Gobert make top ten in their premier events

CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 6, 2006) – Monster Energy’s road racers and supermoto team all converged on Road America in Elkhart Lake this past weekend for AMA Supermoto and Superbike series stops at the famed Wisconsin motorsports facility.

Leading the way for Monster Energy in the supermoto races on Road America’s Briggs & Stratton Motorplex circuit was Mark Burkhart (Graves/Yamaha). The Ohioan went 2-4 in the two race format and moved up to 4th in the overall supermoto class points standings, just three points away from the overall podium with tons of racing remaining.
Burkhart’s Monster Energy teammate Doug Henry (Graves/Yamaha), who had the overall points lead entering the race, made the podium with Burkhart in the first race (3rd), but suffered a mechanical problem in the second race that would relegate him to 16th place.

Henry now trails rival Jeff Ward, who swept both races at Elkhart Lake, 91-76 for the overall points lead.

Over on the Road America road race circuit Monster Energy’s Danny Eslick pulled an awesome start in the Pro Honda Oils Supersports class, launching his Suzuki GSX-R 600 out to 4th place early in the race. Eslick then held onto 5th place through much of the race, only to lose a few spots with three laps remaining – coming in at 8th overall. With the effort Eslick remained on the podium for the overall series points in 3rd.

Monster Energy teammate Aaron Gobert, running an Erion Racing-tuned Honda CBR600RR in the Lockhart-Phillips USA Formula Xtreme class shot out to an equally good start (4th) and held his near-podium place through lap six of the ten lap contest. A mistake cost Gobert a number of positions later in the race, falling back to 9th. He then caught and passed Alastair Seeley to finish 8th overall in the contest. Gobert added a 12th place finish in the Repsol Lubricants Superstock Series and is currently in 7th place overall in the Superstock points chase.

Next up for the Monster Energy-backed AMA Supermoto racers will be Round Three of the series at USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wisc. (June 10). Noteworthy: Henry went 1-1 at that round last year.
The Monster Energy-backed AMA Superbike racers will be at the inaugural Miller Motorsports Park series stop in Tooele, Utah (June 16-18).
