Monster Energy/Slednecks' Paul Thacker Breaks Own World Snowmobile
Distance Jumping Record
Thacker man's up, braves blizzard conditions and uncorks a 245-footer!
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., (Feb. 26, 2007) - Monster Energy/Slednecks' Paul
Thacker flew a snowmobile farther than anybody in history on
Saturday, setting a new ramp-to-ramp distance record of 245 feet that
eclipsed his old record of 238 feet.
And though seven feet doesn't seem like that big of a margin, Thacker
accomplished the feat in a blizzard with travel warnings.
"Actually, he broke three records," said event promoter John Keegan
of Slednecks. "Longest jump in a blizzard and longest jump in front
of a crowd."
Nearly 5,000 Minnesotans braved the "Stay home" warnings from the
local media to witness Thacker's historic jump of a 430-pound Bikeman
Performance-powered Polaris IQ snowmobile at Canterbury Park - a
horse racing facility just outside Minneapolis.
"It was pretty insane," said Thacker. "I can't believe we even pulled
off the show, much less break a record."
With wind gusts in the high 30 mile per hour range and visibility at
a minimum, the Slednecks crew got to the facility at 7 a.m. in the
morning on Saturday and were able to put in a few practice jumps,
work on getting their math straight for the evening jump under the
lights. In the days preceding the record jump the team pumped an
incredible 3.8 million gallons of water through snow guns to form
what would become the largest snow landing ramp ever constructed.
"Once we got the ramp built the storm only allowed us three to four
short practice jumps on Friday," said Keegan. "Saturday was just
about as rough, but we were able to get our math right before the
wind gusts shut us down."
Come judgment time on Saturday night, Thacker was amazed to see the
sizable crowd that showed up despite the weather. So he, along with
ESPN Winter X Games Freestyle Snowmobiling gold medalist Chris
Burandt and fellow Slednecks riders Kourtney Hungerford and Nate Haag
braved the conditions and went for it.
"With the huge crowd braving the conditions I knew I was going to
have to do everything in my ability to take a legitimate crack at
breaking the record," said Thacker. "But I was definitely confident
in my abilities and my machinery that we were going to be able to
make something happen despite the gale-force winds and white out
conditions."
Thacker continued: "With the crowd coming out in the blizzard like
that I knew I had to do it. But I also knew I could do it. The
Slednecks crews painstakingly put everything into motion and
fortunately we were able to brave the elements, push the envelope and
set a new record. Granted, we only broke the record by seven feet,
but that in and of itself was a huge accomplishment considering that
myself, nor the fans, should have been outside in those conditions."
In addition to Thacker's jump and the freestyle show, Monster Energy
rolled it's refrigerated rig out (which Thacker jumped over, by the
way) and the Monster Energy Sample Rig and handed out Monster Energy
drinks & swag throughout the night. The athletes also signed tons of
autographs and posed for pictures with the spectators.
The Canterbury Park show also served as a dress rehearsal for the
upcoming Monster Energy/Slednecks Invasion Tour. Thacker, Burandt,
Hungerford and Haag will all be part of the freestyle snowmobile and
FMX tour set to begin this summer. Dates and venues TBA.

Monster Energy's Ricky Carmichael Back On Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series Podium
RC's happy with 2nd place finish, as is his fellow Monster Energy- backed teammate Ivan Tedesco who ties his season-best finish with 4th overall
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 26, 2007) - Monster Energy-backed Ricky Carmichael (Makita/Suzuki) wrote another exciting chapter into his
2007 Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series farewell tour, this past weekend enjoying some home field advantage in Atlanta's Georgia Dome, Round Eight of the 2007 supercross series tour.
Carmichael, who is in the process of making the switch from two to four wheel racing, had much of the pro-Carmichael 70,000-plus fans in attendance on their feet during the main event as he put a spirited charge on fellow Floridian and heir apparent successor to his title reign - James Stewart.
"I did my best to close in on James, but that dang rhythm section
- I went through it like I was wearing a skirt," joked Carmichael. "Seems like every time he didn't do that section I could gain on him. That and when he ran into some lappers."
In the four races Carmichael's competed in this year he's yet to finish off the podium - placing 2nd three times and winning one race.
"It was a great race - I wish I'd have gotten up even closer,"
said Carmichael.
Carmichael will close out the supercross season on March 17th in Orlando. "I'm due for a win there. Haven't won since '97 at Orlando," he said.
Coming real close to landing on the box this past weekend was Carmichael's Monster Energy-backed teammate Ivan Tedesco. The New Mexico native tied his season-best finish of the year with a 4th overall in the AMA Supercross class main event.
"I'm for sure stoked with my ride," said Tedesco. "I've been trying to get better every weekend and am just trying to keep it up there with those guys (Carmichael, Stewart and Chad Reed). And I've finally put together a couple races where I've been right up there."
Tedesco and Reed had about the best battle going all night for the third and final podium spot. Tedesco took advantage of a Reed miscue early in the race and held the 3rd place position through 17 of the 20 laps, before being passed by Reed in the evening's best premier class rivalry. And this despite suffering a broken hand prior to the start of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series season.
"Early in the season I'd basically just taped my hand to the handlebars and went for it," said Tedesco. "Now I'm getting to where I can ride with 100-percent confidence and it's showed in my results."
Next up for Tedesco is the St. Louis supercross round at the Edward Jones Dome (March 3rd). "I actually led St. Louis for ten laps last year," he said. "I've been working on my speed and things are really starting to come around."

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Darcy Lange Opens Eastern Lites SX Title Chase On Podium
Supercross series' largest crowd - 70,000-plus - packs sold out Atlanta Georgia Dome for opening round of Eastern Lites series
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 26, 2007) - Fresh off winning an arenacross championship, Canadian transplant Darcy Lange (Monster Energy/Pro
Circuti/Kawasaki) opened the 2007 Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series Eastern Lites title chase on a high note, finishing 2nd overall in the first of seven AMA Lites class races to decide an overall champion.
In front of 70,000-plus fans at Atlanta's Georgia Dome - Lange got things going early by winning the first heat race.
"Oh man, this is awesome," said Lange. "I can't say enough for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team and Mitch Payton for having faith in me. It's been my dream to ride for Pro Circuit and I wouldn't be up here on the podium without any of them."
Lange was actually running in 2nd place when he stalled his Kawasaki KX250F, but was quickly able to get it running again and made up the lost positions in order to get on the box.
Lange's Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammate Ben Townley, one of the pre-season favorites to win the Eastern Lites title, took a bit more difficult road to the Atlanta Lites main event by winning the Last Chance Qualifier. In the main event Townley was leading, but succumbed to a rare mechanical issue.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Nine of the 2007 Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series at St. Louis'
Edward Jones Dome (March 3).

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto Captures Western SX Lites Region Title
Villopoto’s wraps up the overall title with one race remaining on the schedule; teammate Chris Gosselaar pulls the Lites holeshot and podiums
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 19, 2007) – Only having to finish 5th or better this weekend clinch the overall Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series’ Western Lites championship, Monster Energy-backed Ryan Villopoto (Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) instead took off and led every lap of the entire race to win the overall title with one race (Seattle) remaining on the Western schedule.
Quick to applaud the entire Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team, Villopoto is another chapter in an amazing story with this team. Not since 2003, when another Monster Energy-backed rider, James Stewart, won the Western Lites title has a team other than Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki been awarded the No. 1 Western Lites plate.
“I can’t thank the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team enough,” said Villopoto. “They put me where I am now.”
Despite again putting up the fastest times in practice, Villopoto recovered from a get-off in the second practice session and won his heat race (No. 2) to make the main. In the main teammate Chris Gosselaar was able to guide his Pro Circuit-tuned Kawasaki KX250F to the holeshot, after which Villopoto soon took the lead and never looked back.
“I’d like to congratulate Ryan. He rode great all year,” said Gosselaar from the podium (3rd).
Gosselaar gave credit on his return to excellence to his doctor, who he said put him back together after his crash at San Francisco.
“I rode a little bit tight tonight, but couldn’t have done it without my doctor and the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team,”
he said. “Felt real good to run up front again.”
Villopoto won the main by more than seven seconds over 2nd place Jason Lawrence.
With the Eastern Lites series starting up this weekend, Villopoto will begin training for the Outdoor National season.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Eight of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto Wins Again In Western SX Lites Region
Villopoto’s Pro Circuit-tuned KX250F pulls the holeshot, then overcomes an early race crash to take the checkers in come-from- behind fashion
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 12, 2007)
With the win Villopoto now leads Jason Lawrence by 34 points for the overall championship, 147-113. A win this weekend in San Diego, or a poor performance by Lawrence, would clinch the title for the young Washington native prior to the series’ final Western Regional Lites championship round in Seattle (April 28th).
Said Villopoto on his $1,000 Progressive Direct holeshot: "The start was tight, I was lucky to have the fastest bike out there."
With Lawrence tight on his rear tire after the start, the No. 1 and No. 2 riders in the series got into a pretty aggro battle, trading the lead briefly early in the race, then having Lawrence take the lead when Villopoto was unable to avoid a downed rider. The points leader was able to right himself and take off after Lawrence, catching him within three laps then putting seven seconds on his rival for good measure.
"It’s racing," said Villopoto of the banging incident with Lawrence. "I did go wide on that turn and left it open for him. But nothing more I can say about it. We’re going for a championship here next week in San Diego."
Finishing 9th on the evening was Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki’s Chris Gosselaar. Gosselaar is in 5th place in the overall Lites class standings.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Seven of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. Last year Villopoto finished 5th at San Diego.

Former AMA Lites class champion still solidly in the top ten overall points
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 12, 2007)
Tedesco transferred to the main with a solid 4th place finish in heat No. 2. In the main he pulled a good start on his Makita/Suzuki RMZ450, ripping into 6th place after the first lap then getting by Michael Byrne for 5th soon there after. Tedesco seemed to have settled into 5th, holding that position through lap 12, when a mistake in the whoops cost him about five positions.
The former champion would battle back and hold onto 8th overall and the 13 points that go with it.
As it stands Tedesco is in 9th place overall after completing six of the 16 rounds. Next up for Tedesco is the San Diego (Qualcomm Stadium), where last year he placed 6th in the main event.

The nine-time Baja 1000 champion and SCORE No. 1 plate holder runs the Monster claw "M"
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 8, 2007) - Good luck chasing Monster Energy's Johnny Campbell down, unless you're his sponsor - then he's gotta pull over and stop.
Monster Energy caught up with the nine-time Baja 1000 race champion as he gets set to embark on another storied off-road racing season, film a movie video and get involved with a ton of other stuff that has this guy up early and running 'er wide open all day long.
Campbell's new movie entitled "True Champion" will chronicle his amazing career with all sorts of cool stock footage and material from the 2007 competition season - slated to be completed in early 2008.
An interview-driven documentary of the story of Johnny's life and career told thru his peers, friends, competitors and moto industry personalities, the film will be narrated by fellow off-road racer and popular X Games announcer Cameron Steele.
Since getting dialed in with Monster Energy, Campbell has been on a whirlwind training, traveling, filming and winning big races, like the prestigious 24 Hours of Glen Helen and the SCORE Off-Road Series'
No. 1 plate. Monster Energy caught up with Campbell just long enough to ask a few questions. When we looked up to say "Good-bye," all we saw was a trail of dust. The dude's fast.
Monster Energy: How are things going with the movie?
Johnny Campbell: "Great! It's a long process and I am enjoying it.
There are still lots of interviews to do and I am looking forward to seeing the footage when it's all said and done."
Monster Energy: What are you focusing on now?
Campbell: "Well right now I need to unpack we just finished the Dirt Rider 24hr endurance test recently."
Monster Energy: How cool was that?
Campbell: "The Bikes ran great no problems; we had lots of Monster Energy on hand to keep us going thru the night."
Monster Energy: What's on deck?
Campbell: "I'll be heading to Laughlin to do some testing for the Best in the Desert Laughlin Hare scramble. Then it's the WORCS race in Adelanto at Racetown 395."
Monster Energy: Has your team recovered yet from the '06 Baja 1000!
Campbell: "You'll have to buy the movie to see the full story, but basically we had a rider go down hard due to a booby trap set by some locals. We chased them away with the helicopter. Then we had a rider break his arm it was one thing after another but that's Baja no one beats Baja, Baja let's you win."
Monster Energy: What about the Baja 1000 for 2007?
Campbell: "Let's just say I am looking forward to this one.REALLY looking forward to this one."
Monster Energy: Thanks for taking the time to talk to us.

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 6, 2007)
Tedesco, who cranked in his heat race, making the podium with a 2nd place finish to Chad Reed, pulled a solid start in the main (5th) and looked to be in the hunt for a possible podium finish.
"Things felt great in my heat race but I just wasn’t able to carry that momentum through out the entire 20-lap main," said Tedesco.
"I feel I’m making progress, getting my speed back, but I still have a ways to go."

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto Wins Third & Final Anaheim SX Round
Villopoto dominates Anaheim for third time, extends Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series Western Lites Region lead to 31 points
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 6, 2007)
The fact that only moments later another Monster Energy-backed racer
"We couldn’t be more pleased with the effort from Ryan, Chris
(Gosselaar) and the entire Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team," said Monster Energy’s Mark Hall. "With our headquarters here in southern California we had a lot of employees attending the supercross events at Angels Stadium. And it was a real treat for them to witness Monster Energy athletes winning each and every main event."
Villopoto laid down the law early, clocking the fastest practice time, winning the second qualifying heat race and registering a Lites class main event best lap time that was more than a second faster than 2nd place Josh Grant.
The Washington native said the key to his main event win was the re- start of the race after a Jake Weimer crash brought out the red flag.
"My first start wasn’t very good, so we went back to the gate and
re-grouped, pulled the holeshot," said Villopoto. "I hadn’t done
that all year."
With wins at Houston and San Diego in the next two weeks Villopoto
would put the title chase out of reach. He leads Jason Lawrence by 31
points (122-91). Should he sweep those two rounds it’s
mathematically all over. If something goes drastically wrong and the
series ends up tied after the final round
would still win based on having more overall wins.
"I’d like to do it by San Diego," said Villopoto on clinching
the title.
Finishing 7th on the evening was Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/
Kawasaki’s Chris Gosselaar. ‘Lil Goose is in a battle for the
final overall podium spot in the Lites class, trailing Weimer by nine
points (74-65) with Josh Grant charging hard in 5th overall (64 points).

Monster Energy/Babbitt’s Kawasaki Team’s Darcy Lange Clinches Boo Koo Arenacross Title!
Lange dominates Minneapolis, crowned overall Boo Koo AX champ again!
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 6, 2007)
The championship is Lange’s second in as many years with the new series. Prior to that he won the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series title in 2004.

Lange went undefeated in heat races at the Target Center, sweeping his way into the main event on Friday and Saturday nights in both the 250 and 450 classes. In fact, the only racer with a shot at Lange, Tyler Bowers, failed to make the podium in the 250 class on Friday

Monster Energy’s Motorcycle Distance Jumping King Ryan Capes Set To Destroy More Records!
Capes will open record-setting 2007 season with a ramp-to-dirt record freestyle jump attempt at the Toe’s MX Park Huckfest in Royal City, Wash.
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 6, 2007)
Capes, the world distance record holder and first human ever to jump a motorcycle over the seemingly invincible 300-foot barrier, will attempt to launch his new Pro Circuit-tuned Kawasaki KX450F nearly 250 feet though the air
"It’s going to be ridiculous," said Capes is summing up the jump.http://www.mlpowersports.com/
The current ramp-to-dirt with a trick record holder is Robbie Madison who jumped 246 feet, with a Hart Attack, in Australia in May of 2005.
Capes says he’s been jumping 200 feet consistently in preparing for his record attempt and, with his new Monster Energy take-off ramp, says that the record will be well within his reach.
"I’ve been hitting my new Monster ramp at about 60 miles per hour for the 200-foot range," said Capes. "We calculate that I’ll have to hit it at about 75 miles per hour to get the height and distance to break the record. Everything should work out perfect."
Capes added that the ramp’s got some good "pop" at the shorter distances, event though it was built for 300 to 400-foot jumps.
In addition to the jump, the Huckfest will feature mini bike and big bike freestyle competitions, a Huck competition and Capes’ marquee record attempt to wind up the show. Capes will also be on hand and Moses Lake Powersports on Saturday, Feb. 24th, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to sign autographs.
