Welcome to the MonsterArmy

Hopkins is 5th overall in MotoGP standings – one point out of 4th overall with one race remaining on the 2008 MotoGP tour

CORONA, Calif., (Oct. 22, 2007) – Monster Energy-backed MotoGP racer John Hopkins (Rizla-Suzuki) engaged in great battle with his Rizla-Suzuki teammate, Chris Vermeulen, at the penultimate round of the 2007 MotoGP season at Malaysia’s Sepang Circuit, eventually settling for 8th place overall.

As it stands Hopkins is in 5th place overall in the MotoGP standings with one race remaining (Valencia, Spain, Nov. 4th), just one point behind Marco Melandri (174-173) for 4th place overall and four points ahead of teammate Vermeulen in 7th.

Said Hopkins on the Sepang event: “Going in to today’s race we had pretty high hopes with the way the bike and tires were working this weekend, but it just didn’t really happen for us. I got off the line pretty well and through turn one and then I made a few mistakes in the first few laps and even ran off the track at one time. From then on it was just a Rizla Suzuki battle with me and Chris (Vermeulen) going back-and-forth. It was good to race with him and it was a bit of fun, but I wish we had been fighting for one-and-two or two-and-three, but it was not to be! I have got to say hats off to all my mechanics this weekend they have been working really hard and sweating their butts off! We now have to go to Valencia and claw our way back into fourth place in the championship at the last race of the year.”

Next up for Monster’s Hopkins is the Nov. 4th running of the Spanish GP in Valencia - the final round of the 2007 MotoGP Championships.
