Takes Overall UCI BMX SX Title

Cali BMXer leads Team USA atop podium versus world’s best racers

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Oct. 10, 2006) – Monster Energy’s Donny Robinson is the new UCI World Cup BMX Supercross World Champion, winning the overall title this past weekend in Frejus, France.

“This was one of my goals this year, so to win the title feels excellent,” said Robinson, who finished second at the only other UCI World Cup BMX Supercross race held in conjunction with the San Jose

Dew Tour round in September.

Qualifying in 4th place on Friday, Robinson (Napa, Calif.) entered the UCI World Cup BMX Supercross finals in France as one of the favorites. Rocketing through his prelim motos, Robinson would put

together his best run of the day in the main event – finishing ahead of Dew Tour BMX SX winner Michal Prokop. So with Prokop going 1-2 and Robinson 2-1 in the two round UCI World Cup BMX Supercross series points chase, Robinson would capture the overall title by virtue of his better finish at the second round.

“And the cool thing is all of these supercross races carry a Category 2 ranking for Olympic points,” added Robinson, referring of course to the 2008 games in Beijing, China, which includes BMX racing.

Next up for Robinson is the ABA National round in Delaware this weekend. For more information on the ABA East Coast Nationals, check out
