ASPEN, Colo. — Hitting the superpipe with two of the best skiers in the country, namely Tanner Hall and Simon Dumont, Carbondale's Peter Olenick showed he fit right in, taking home a bronze medal in X-Games.
Olenick's best score was a 90, four points behind Dumont and five behind Hall. Olenick's X-Games medal count is now three and the 26-year-old will look to add more on Sunday in the skiing slopestyle final.
Trio goes on in X
In men's snowboarder X on Friday, all three area riders qualified for Saturday's quarterfinals. Basalt's Jason Smith led the way, taking 10th overall with a time of one minute and 6.233 seconds. Ross Trulove and Cleve Johnson, both of Carbondale, finished 16th and 17th with times of 1:07.391 and 1:07.408, respectively.
They will return to the snowboard X course today at 11 a.m. The order of snowboarder X events today will go as follows: men's quarterfinals, women's semifinals, men's semis, women's final, men's final, women's consolation finals then men's consolation finals.
Tucker advances to skier X quarters
Lloyd Tucker finished 18th in men's skier X competition on Friday with a time of 1 minute and 0.897 seconds to advance to the quarterfinals. Tucker, who is from Carbondale, will compete again on Sunday at noon. The order of skier X events will go as follows: men's quarterfinals, women's semifinals, men's semis, women's final, men's final, women's consolation finals then men's consolation finals.
