Ricky holds the all time record for wins and Motocross National Championships in AMA competition. He has 150 wins, and has never lost an outdoor championship. He was the most dominant racer of his generation. Carmichael got his 101st motocross event win on July 1, 2007 with a 2 & 1 duel against James Stewart at Red Bud. Ricky retired after winning his last race in AMA Toyota Motorcross Series in Millville, Minnesota.
 
Carmichael married his wife Ursula in 2002. Recently, they were blessed with twins (one boy, one girl), just before his last AMA Supercross Main event ever. The twins' names are Kadin and Elise. Ricky’s nicknames include: RC and the G.O.A.T. (standing for "Greatest of All time").
